Don DeWolfe has helped many people navigate a few rough waters along the way.
In fact, I think that everyone who goes to Don as an accountant probably thinks of him as their friend! He is relaxed and laid back and ever so slightly irreverent. If you are feeling intimidated by your tax return or an issue that is pressing on you, Don can set your mind at ease in a matter of moments.
Now that tax season is approaching, I asked Don if he could share just a few, common sense tax tips. Everyone’s accounting needs are different, but here are just a few basic helpful tips.
- Keep all your receipts in one place.

- On restaurant and entertainment receipts, include the tip in your total.
- Own or lease your car personally, not through your corporation.
- Do not have the same bank accountant for business and personal use.
- Get a credit card and use it exclusively for business purposes.
- Everybody’s situation is unique. Do not assume that your friend’s solutions will work for you.
- Beware of any scheme that promises to save you taxes.
- Never ignore or avoid the taxman. Let your accountant deal with them immediately.
- Avoid interest and penalties by filing your taxes on time.
- Hire a professional, and listen to their advice!
Simple…hope it’s a start.
